We believe that pastoral care is an integral part of the model of care and essential in interdisciplinary team planning. We actively promote and support ongoing training of pastoral carer's in our region.

We are currently undertaking an assessment of the education and support needs of pastoral carers in the region.

Pastoral carers offer palliative care patients and/or clients the following:

• Exploration of the meaning of the patients illness
• Recognition of the uniqueness of each individuals experience
• Time for reflection
• Listening to hopes, fears, longings
• Assistance in the exploration of personal meaning and self worth
• Faith and spiritual issues support
• Support for rituals and ceremonies
• Unconditional acceptance
